Mabe reaffirms good standing with the ANC

Former African National Congress (ANC) National Spokesperson Pule Mabe says his current court case is hindering his contribution to the work of his organisation.

Mabe and six of his co-accused are facing charges of fraud and money laundering linked to a 2017 Enviro Mobi tender.

Mabe, who is an ANC National Executive Committee member, has since stepped aside from the NEC, in keeping with the ANC’s step-aside resolution.

This means he cannot participate in the work of his organisation or campaign on its behalf.

Mabe maintains that he still remains a member in good standing.

“Of course, I’m still very much a member of the ANC. When they go out to vote in the local government elections on the 4th of November, I will again do what is expected of me and vote for the African National Congress. It (the case) has only, of course, limited my active participation in the work of the organisation. I’ve done so for the past 10 years. So, if there are outstanding things that require me to clarify, like this case is, this moment allows me to do that. It has also allowed me to discharge my academic work. I’m now in the final work of my doctoral studies which I would not have had the sufficient time to do, if I was doing this alongside my organisational work.  Of course, I miss participating and making a contribution in the life of our organisation.”
