Didiza presents Impeachment Committee proposals to party Chief Whips

Parliament has confirmed that National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza met with Chief Whips on Wednesday and presented proposals on the Impeachment Committee.

This follows the tabling of the Section 89 report, that recommended that an Impeachment Committee should be established to look into a prima facie case against President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This tabling is in line with the process that Didiza set out on Monday, on how she will implement the Constitutional Court judgment last Friday.

The court ruled that Parliament should establish an Impeachment Committee to look into allegations of foreign currency stolen from a couch on Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in 2020.

Tabling the Section 89 report of the Independent Panel is the first of five steps Didiza announced – which is to formally inform the National Assembly.

Other steps include sharing the report with Ramaphosa and initiating the process to constitute the Impeachment Committee.
