The Health Department says Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has sent his condolences to the bereaved family of the pedestrians who died after his official vehicle hit them on the N1 outside Bela Bela in Limpopo.
A woman, with a child who was strapped on her back, were crossing the road to a scene where her husband was earlier hit and killed by a vehicle driven by an off-duty police officer when Motsoaledi’s convoy vehicle hit them.
The minister’s vehicle was driven by a member of the Protection Security Services. The woman’s other child survived.
Department spokesperson Foster Mohale says police are investigating.
“While the matter is currently handled by the police, Minister Motsoaledi would like to extend his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased on the tragic loss of their loved ones.”
The family of three pedestrians killed says it is still devastated. The bereaved family’s spokesperson Charles Shoperai says her sister was pillar to the family and a breadwinner.
“I am not feeling well because what has happened is not good at all. Basically, I do not understand because I was not around here because I stay in Venda, so I just heard from the people who were at the scene. The wife that one is my sister. She was a good one in our family.”
