Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen briefing the media on Foot and Mouth Disease in Parliament, 5 May 2026.
Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen says all Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) restrictions in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have been lifted.
Steenhuisen was briefing the media in Parliament about the disease.
He says while large parts of red meat industry producers have been plagued by FMD for several years, KZN has been the hardest hit.
The province has been the only one declared as a Disease Management Area in 2021.
Steenhuisen says due to government’s FMD vaccination roll out, matters have improved to the extent that the Disease Management Area declaration has now been lifted.
