Arrested Ekurhuleni City Manager Kagiso Lerutla.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has urged Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza to immediately suspend the City Manager Kagiso Lerutla following his arrest.
Lerutla appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court alongside suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi yesterday.
They are both facing charges of fraud, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice.
The DA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Khathutshelo Rasilingwane says, “The Democratic Alliance calls on Ekurhuleni executive Mayor Xhakaza to act immediately by suspending the manager Kagiso Lerutla, who is now under arrest pending further investigation into the charges laid against him. Should he be found guilty, he must be dismissed without delay.”
“Despite warnings from the DA about his performance in his previous position as a group CFO, he was responsible for the city’s financial performance. Residents should not have to pay the price for instability, mismanagement and corruption. The arrest must not stop here- there’s no doubt there [are] many other officials working for the city who must also be brought to book,” adds Rasilingwane.
