Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, has filed legal papers for a lawsuit against EFF leader, Julius Malema, over claims he made that he obtained a Master’s Degree at the University of Fort Hare fraudulently.
Malema made the remarks while addressing EFF supporters outside court in KuGompo City in the Eastern Cape, after he was sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment on Thursday.
Mabuyane is demanding that Malema issue a public apology within three days and undertake in writing to refrain from making similar remarks in future.
Mabuyane’s Spokesperson, Sonwabo Mbananga, says the Premier believes Malema’s utterances are part of a sustained campaign to destroy him.
‘It is wrong to perpetuate falsehoods and untruths repeatedly as facts, knowing these matters are yet to be tested and, as such, they are before the courts. It would be wrong for any leader, for whatever purpose and in this instance, we do say it is for political purposes, that this lie is being repeated time and again by Mr Malema and the Pemier rejects this unequivocally to say that he is not a corrupt leader,” adds Mbananga.
