ANC to brief media on local government plan

Senior ANC officials, including party president Cyril Ramaphosa, are expected to hold a media briefing at Luthuli House in Johannesburg this morning.

The briefing will focus on the party’s Local Government Action Plan.

The plan follows the ANC’s Councillor Roll Call held in September last year, attended by more than six thousand councillors and mayors.

Accountability for service delivery failures and restoring public trust ahead of the 2026 local government elections were key issues discussed at the gathering.

ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula says the party will outline progress made.

“Led by the President at Luthuli House on Monday, we will brief the media on the work done around the action plan on local government,” said Mbalula.

He says party leadership will also engage directly with communities in Johannesburg.

“We will then visit the Metro of Johannesburg in terms of the work that has been done and the challenges that have been faced by the Joburg Metro. All Top Seven, NWC and NEC members will be deployed along the length and breadth of Johannesburg Metro this coming Monday,” he added.

The ANC says the engagements form part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery at the local government level.
