Police in KuGompo city in the Eastern Cape have arrested three men including a local businessman and artist in connection with the shooting of a 16-year old boy on Friday afternoon.
It is alleged that the boy was picking guavas in the bushes behind a liquor store in Amalinda with his friends when he was shot by an unknown man who was standing on a nearby wall.
A healthcare worker at the hospital where the victim was admitted informed the police which led to the arrests.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, says the suspects will appear in court on Monday.
Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana says, “A case of attempted murder was opened. The serious violent crime unit arrested three male suspects aged 37, 44 and 55 in connection with the shooting. The three suspects will appear at the KuGompo City Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 18 May 2026.”
