Floods at an informal settlement
The City of Cape Town says it’s on standby after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned of two approaching cold fronts this weekend.
The first cold front is expected to make landfall on Sunday, followed by a second on Monday.
Forecasters say it will bring disruptive rainfall that could lead to localised flooding and gale force winds. Rough seas are also expected along coastal areas.
The City’s Risk Management spokesperson, Charlotte Powell says they are ready to deal with any weather-related impacts from the recent storm.
“We ask that residents put in place mitigation measures to protect their properties, including clearing gutters and any other blockages on their property. They should also be checking for any roof leakages. Residents should secure any loose items and materials like garden furniture etc. that could be vulnerable to wind gusts. They should also consider digging trenches to lead water away from their homes if in informal settlements.”
