Two arrested for illegal hunting; ammunition, carcasses seized

Two men have been arrested in Manzana (Badplaas) for the alleged possession of live ammunition, stock theft and illegal hunting.

Police spokesperson Jabu Ndubane says officers were conducting a routine patrol when they received information from a security company about suspects who had allegedly been caught hunting illegally.

Ndubane says the suspects were also found with carcasses of a wild animal and a cow.

”One suspect was found in possession of a licensed firearm with 15 rounds of ammunition and a magazine. Police also noticed bloodstains on the suspects’ clothing, as well as two carcasses – one of a wild animal and another of a cow – which had been slaughtered. Three cellphones were found in the suspects’ possession,” Ndubane adds.

He says, “The suspects alleged that the devices belong to a third suspect who fled the scene before the arrival of the police. Items were confiscated including the licenced firearm for further investigation. The two suspects are expected to appear at the Emanzana Periodical Court today”.
