State to hand over outstanding evidence in ‘Cat’ Matlala case

The state in the attempted murder case of alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, together with his four co-accused, has made a commitment at the High Court in Johannesburg to furnish the defence teams with all outstanding documents by Friday next week.

Matlala is accused of orchestrating the failed assassinations of his former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Joe Sibanyoni and music producer ,Seunkie Mokubung, popularly known as DJ Vettys.

Matlala, his wife Tsakane, alleged hit-men Musa Kekana and Tiego Mabusela, together with Nthabiseng Nzama face 25 charges in connection with the three botched hits between August 2022 and January 2024.

We have complied as far as possible with the request and I think we’ve leaned backwards to accommodate the defence team, so as I said, we are still working on the last specs and we should be able to provide it I would say by the latest next Friday, which is the 15th of May. I know we’re out of time, we should have provided all of this on the 7th of April but my Lord, life happens and we really tried and it was difficult to get some of this information,” says State Prosecutor Elize Le Roux.
