Ngizwe Mchunu’s supporters to protest in Pretoria

Supporters of cultural activist and media personality Ngizwe Mchunu will on Tuesday gather at Burgers Park in central Pretoria before marching to the High Court to support him in his legal case.

The defamation case involves Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema.

This comes after Malema launched an urgent application to demand that Mchunu make a public apology and retract the statements he made about the EFF leader outside the Union Buildings last month.

Malema is also demanding R1 million in damages.

Mchunu allegedly accused Malema of receiving millions from “Nigerian drug dealers” and that he was using his political influence to protect foreign nationals involved in criminal activities.

Last week, the High Court ruled in Malema’s favour, wherein the judge ordered that Mchunu not publish or repeat the defamatory statements.

Mchunu was also ordered to pay Malema’s legal costs.

On Tuesday, Mchunu will be back in court, where he is expected to give reasons why this interim court order should not be made final.
