Netball SA announces expanded group of 17 contracted national players

Netball South Africa has taken a significant step towards the professionalisation of the sport.

The federation has announced an expanded group of 17 contracted national players and an additional seven training partners.

Netball South Africa says the step forms part of its efforts to build a competitive and sustainable high-performance system.

The players will be compensated according to structured categories, aligned to their experience, number of caps, and role within the national set-up.

Contracted players include Proteas captain, Khanyisa Chawane, Elmeré van den Bergh, Shadine van der Merwe and Kamogelo Maseko.

CEO Adam Brooke says the federation is looking towards building depth as it prepares for global competitions, including next year’s World Cup in Sydney, Australia.

The twelve-month contracts ended on the first of this month.
