Flynn Tells Madlanga Commission of irregularities in exhibit transfer

Major-General Hendrik Flynn has told the Madlanga Commission that there was non-compliance in the transfer of exhibits from the Isipingo Police Station to the Hawks’ premises in Port Shepstone.

Flynn testified that protocol requires that all seized property be recorded in the SAP-13 register at the relevant police station.

However, the exhibit was only entered into the register three days after it had been moved to Port Shepstone.

Major-General Flynn is testifying about the break-in that occurred at the Hawks’ premises in November 2021, during which 541 kg of cocaine was stolen.

“Commissioners, after the exhibits were booked in and booked out at Isipingo on the 22nd of June 2021, the officers took the exhibits to the serious organised crime unit in Port Shepstone, stored them there in the walk-in safe. And then only on a later date, on the 24th of June, the exhibits were entered into the SAP13 at Port Shepstone SAPS, whilst it was still, until the burglary and theft, in the walk-in safe in Port Shepstone organised crime unit.”
