Residents march against illegal immigration in KwaZulu-Natal.
ActionSA in KwaZulu-Natal has called on the eThekwini Municipality to establish a dedicated unit to tackle crime and address the issue of hijacked buildings in the Durban City Centre.
The party’s provincial leader, Zwakele Mncwango, also participated in a march against illegal immigrants in Durban that drew hundreds of people.
The march concluded on Mahatma Gandhi Road, formerly Point Road. The area is often associated with high levels of crime and urban decay.
It also includes a number of businesses, many of which are operated by foreign nationals.
“We are saying within metro police, let’s have a unit that is going to work closely with Home Affairs and other stakeholders as well as SAPS to deal decisively with the issue of illegal immigration and drugs as well as human trafficking. We all know what is happening here in South Beach. We also are saying as ActionSA, it is high time that leadership need to prevail in eThekwini because part of the problem, we’ve got leaders who do not listen. These marches we see on a day-to-day basis are as a result of anger of communities. As Action SA in council, we recently had a meeting, we had a motion which said let’s have a stakeholder engagement arranged by the municipality to have some resolutions on how we can resolve this issue,” says Mncwango.
