Madlanga to decide on public access to witness G statement

Madlanga Commission Spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, says a decision will be made in due course on whether the public will have access to Witness G’s statement.

On Monday, the Commission’s chairperson, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, ruled that Witness G’s testimony will be heard in camera.

This follows Witness G’s reservations about reading her statement on record, citing safety concerns.

Michaels says discussions are ongoing regarding whether her testimony will be made public.

“That is a call that will have to be made in due course. I can’t say for sure at this point. We have been discussing that as well, and there have been lengthy discussions behind the scenes. That is why there has been this long delay about all those kinds of considerations. So, certainly, we are talking about that. But the final decision hasn’t been made yet.”
