The wreckage of the bus crash on the N1 in Limpopo on April 22, 2026.
The Limpopo Department of Transport says the N1 will be closed to traffic from 08:00 on Thursday morning between Witvlag junction and the Hendrik Verwoerd Tunnel.
Department spokesperson Mashudu Mabata says the closure is to allow for the removal of a bus that crashed and fell into a ditch on Wednesday. One person died in the crash.
Mabata says the wreckage could not be removed earlier due to bad weather.
“The N1 will be closed for approximately four hours on Thursday, 23 April 2026, starting from 08:00, to allow for the recovery of a Zimbabwean bus that was involved in an accident on the N1 between Makhado and Musina. Due to the heavy load and persistent rainfall, the service provider was unable to recover the bus earlier. As a result, arrangements have been made to offload the goods before recovery operations can proceed.”
