Former Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions Doctor Silas Ramaite.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Cases Inquiry in Pretoria is expected to hear evidence from former Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Doctor Silas Ramaite on Monday.
He served as deputy for 15 years before President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed him to an acting capacity in August 2018.
Ramaite’s name was mentioned last week.
This was in connection with an allegation that then-president Thabo Mbeki had blocked the imminent arrest of the accused in the poisoning of anti-apartheid activist the Reverend Frank Chikane.
While Author Ole Bubenzer testified that this happened under then-NDPP Bulelani Ngcuka’s watch, this was contradicted by Chief Evidence Leader Advocate Ishmael Semenya, who said the allegation was made when Ramaite was in office in November 2004.
