Six nabbed in Eastern Cape for manufacturing illicit alcohol

Six men have been arrested for allegedly manufacturing and distributing counterfeit alcohol estimated at over R500 000 in Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape.

Police spokesperson Majola Nkohli says officers followed up on information and pulled over a vehicle that was travelling from KuGompo City to Stutterheim last night.

Nkohli says a search of the vehicle led them to a house in Entilini, where they found five occupants producing and packaging various brands of counterfeit alcoholic spirits.

“Police seized several boxes of illicit alcohol and R 6 570 cash. It is believed that the site has been operating as a manufacturing factory since 2025. The six suspects, aged between 22 and 36, are due to appear in court soon on charges of contravening the Counterfeit Goods Act 31 of 1997. They will also be charged for contravening the Liquor Act.”
