Shattered glass on the ground after an accident.
Seven people including a minor have died in a car crash involving three vehicles on the N2 near Bulembu Airport outside eQonce (formerly King Williams Town) in the Eastern Cape.
The seven were confirmed dead on the scene while two other occupants were sent to Grey Hospital for medical treatment.
It is reported that a bakkie carrying six passengers collided with the side of a small vehicle before crashing into another bakkie.
Provincial Transport Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose says a case of culpable homicide has been opened.
“As the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, we are deeply saddened by this tragic accident that has claimed seven lives and we are calling on road users, motorists in particular, to be extra cautious and vigilant because one death on our roads is one too many. We are calling on them to take responsibility when they are on the roads to prevent any further tragedies.”
