Gauteng Education works to secure placements for learners

Gauteng Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, says the department is working tirelessly to ensure placement for learners who have not found space at schools in the province.

Chiloane says 3 000 learners have not been placed yet.

Since the beginning of the month, thousands of parents have been storming the department’s offices with the hope of securing space for their children.

Chiloane says 13 of the 26 schools under construction are nearing completion, and all those stranded would have found schools by the end of the month.

“For those parent can rest assured that their children will be placed, what we are doing now we are going to place them in temporary schools. There are going to be schools that are going to host them until the schools we are establishing of which we are targeting end of the month – to be ready – then we take those learners to those particular schools. We have to create those schools where we have reached capacity of the high pressure areas because the current schools are really full.”
