South Africa’s Ambassador to France Nathi Mthethwa addresses delegates at the SA-France Investment Conference in France, Paris on 21 May 2025.
Police say a five-member team will leave this Saturday for Paris, France, after the death earlier this week of Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa.
They say the deployment will not affect the repatriation process for Mthethwa.
The police have confirmed the team is being deployed to assist French authorities with their investigation into the ambassador’s death.
Mthethwa passed away on Tuesday at the age of 58 after allegedly falling from the 22nd floor of a hotel in Paris.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says, “The National Commissioner has already engaged with the French Embassy in South Africa, with his counterparts in France, to inform them of our visit and the work that will be done by our investigators upon arrival. Just before they leave on Saturday, we are expecting the team to meet with the National Commissioner. Upon arrival in France, they will then meet with the team that has been tasked with investigating the death of Nathi Mthethwa.”
