Mthethwa helped shape KZN’s political landscape: ANC

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal says South Africa’s Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, will be remembered for his contribution in shaping the province’s political landscape.

Mthethwa, who hails from KwaMbonambi on the north coast, died in Paris at the age of 58.

Mthethwa’s body was found at the Hyatt Hotel where according to reports, he died from a fall from the 22nd storey.

Between 1990 to 1992, Mthethwa served as Regional Secretary of the ANC Youth League in the province.

He later moved up the ministerial ranks.

Convenor of the ANC Provincial Task Team Jeff Radebe says Mthethwa’s passing is a great loss.

“We have received with great shock of the news of the passing away of the Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa – a man that dedicated his life to the struggle for freedom and justice in South Africa. I knew him way back in the early 90s when I was the chairperson of the ANC here in Southern Natal and he was the secretary of ANC Youth league in KwaZulu-Natal; and later when he became the Minister of Police, I was at Justice. We worked together a lot and later when he became the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture and I was in the Presidency we together brought the remains of our stalwarts and heroes Moses Kotane and JB Marks. So, it is really a great loss not only to the ANC, but also particularly to his family and his in-laws the Buthelezi’s.”
