The South African Communist Party (SACP) General-Secretary Solly Mapaila says they are not aiming to break the alliance with the African National Congress (ANC) by independently taking part in the 2026 local government elections (LGE).
He was speaking at a gathering at KwaDlengezwa near Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal to commemorate the party’s 104th anniversary.

Mapaila says the SACP is implementing a conference resolution already taken in 2022. However, he adds that the SACP is tired of taking part in never-ending discussions with the ANC and decisions taken there were not being implemented.
Mapaila says the SACP has decided to go it alone in the elections to exercise power on behalf of the working class and unemployed.
He says five projects undertaken in three provinces so far where communal farms and cooperatives were formed as self-help initiatives, are examples of what they aim to achieve.
Mapaila, also says the party remains committed to fighting private monopoly capital, which he accuses of looting public resources, exploiting workers, and undermining development.
