SANDF representative appears in court in Cradock Four inquest matter

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Legal Services’ representative, Advocate Masilo Brian Lekoloana says he is not in a position to delay proceedings in the inquest into the deaths of the Cradock Four in the High Court in Gqeberha.

This, after a brief appearance in the court today.

The SANDF was subpoenaed to appear to account for the military’s refusal to fund the legal representation for the former Lieutenant General, Christoffel Pierre “Joffel” van der Westhuizen.

Lekoloana said this case had been escalated to the high court in Pretoria, where the reasons for the refusal were stated.

He says Van der Westhuizen is, however, not taking any steps to expedite the matter.

The inquest that seeks to establish who was responsible for the murder of the Cradock Four, Matthew Goniwe, Fort Calata, Sparrow Mkhonto and Sicelo Mhlauli, remains adjourned until the 4th of October.
