Organised crime can’t occur without corruption: Major Gen Flynn

Hawks head of Serious Organised Crime Investigations, Major-General Hendrik Flynn, has told the Madlanga Commission that organised crime cannot occur without corruption.

Flynn is the latest witness to testify and is giving evidence on the cocaine theft that occurred in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal, in November 2021.

He says corruption occurs in both the public and private sectors.

“Commissioners, by the nature of organised crime, there needs to be an enabling factor that allows organised crime to flourish. In order for that to happen, it’s my experience that there is always an element of corruption involved in the perpetuating of these crimes.”
