A Northern Cape man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping a 10-year-old girl between 2023 and 2025.
The Colesberg Regional Court heard that the man, who was the minor’s neighbour, started sexually abusing her when she was eight years old.
Provincial police spokesperson Molefi Shemane says the man has been declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.
“The accused was denied bail and remained in custody until the finalisation of the trial. The accused was found guilty recently on two counts of rape in the Colesberg regional court. He was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for rape on count one and on count two, he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for rape. The accused will remain behind bars for 30 years.”
