A new witness is expected to take the stand at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, proceedings concluded early for the media and members of the public on Monday, after Commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga ruled that Witness G’s testimony would be heard in camera.
Witness G, a crime intelligence officer and former MK operative, handles informers and is believed to have given testimony related to controversial Northwest businessman Brown Mogotsi.
Her evidence was initially heard in a partial camera with her voice audible.
Proceedings at the Madlanga Commission were marred by several challenges on Monday as Witness G took the stand.
Her testimony was affected by technical glitches, as well as her reluctance to read her statement into the record, citing safety concerns.
Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga ruled that it had become impractical for the Commission to proceed without placing her full evidence on record, thus ruling that her evidence would be heard in a closed session.
