New witness to take stand at Meyiwa’s murder trial

A new witness is expected to take the stand in the late Bafana Bafana Captain Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday.

This follows the conclusion of the testimony of one of the accused, Bongani Ntanzi, on Thursday last week.

Ntanzi had been on the witness stand since February this year.

He and four others are on trial for the shooting of Meyiwa in October 2014.

Ntanzi’s alleged confession is said to have led police to the arrest of his co-accused, as he detailed the roles they allegedly played in carrying out what the state describes as a contract killing.

However, his testimony has been marked by repeated attempts to distance himself from the confession statements.

Ntanzi also denied knowing three of his co-accused despite the state presenting evidence of alleged links between them.

It remains unclear who the defence is expected to call as its next witness when proceedings resume.
