Residents of Steelpoort in Limpopo say a newly constructed bridge has improved mobility and safety in the area.
The community previously relied on a narrow single-lane bridge, which residents say created difficulties for motorists and pedestrians.
Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe, is expected to officially hand over the bridge to the residents.
Mining companies operating in the area funded the project following calls from communities for greater social investment and infrastructure support.
Learners in the area say the bridge has improved daily travel and reduced delays.
“The old bridge was not useful for us, we could see that two cars couldn’t pass going in opposite directions, but the other bridge, which is the new one, is helping us, two vehicles can now pass at the same time. The bridge is very useful coz now we cannot go to school late, we arrive on time and can catch up with other learners”, says one learner.
Residents say the new structure has improved safety and eased traffic flow for the surrounding communities.
