N3 truck crash leaves one dead

A man has died after two trucks collided on the N3 near the Cliffdale Interchange, heading towards Pietermaritzburg, west of Durban.

According to Garrith Jamieson, from one of the private ambulance services that responded to the scene, paramedics were met with scenes of devastation upon arrival.

He says one of the trucks had left the roadway, overturned over the barrier, and came to rest on its side after losing its load.

“Paramedics assessed what is believed to be the driver of the one truck, who had been ejected from the vehicle and unfortunately had sustained fatal injuries and there was nothing paramedics could do for him. He was declared dead at the scene.”

“The second truck driver has sustained no injuries and it’s unclear if there are any further injuries as the scene is still active. All necessary role players are in attendance and traffic is flowing past; however, we would advise all motorists to avoid this area at all costs for some time.”
