Councillor Miyelani Chauke is sworn in as the new Executive Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality in Limpopo on 08 May 2026.
The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has removed two mayors from their positions.
Vhembe District Municipality’s new executive mayor, Miyelani Chauke, has replaced Fredah Nkondo.
Chauke was inaugurated in a special council sitting in Thohoyandou.
In Tzaneen, Odas Ngobeni is set to replace Gerson Molapisane.
Party spokesperson Ernest Rachoene says the decision to replace Nkondo and Molapisane was taken during a provincial executive committee sitting earlier this week.
Rachoene says the new mayors must expedite services, especially the provision of water.
“We have communicated the decision as the PEC, but the fact of the matter is that we are going to have a new mayor in Tzaneen. With regards to Vhembe, we want to take this opportunity again as the African National Congress in Limpopo to congratulate the newly elected executive mayor, councillor Chauke. So, the mandate is very clear – he must make sure that the people of Vhembe get water. Not only water but the services that they deserve from the district municipality.”
