Judges Matter welcomes Ngcukaitobi’s ConCourt appointment

Judicial watchdog, Judges Matter, has welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s appointment of Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi as an Acting Justice of the Constitutional Court.

The appointment is with effect from the first of next month.

Ngcukaitobi has expertise in constitutional, public, labour, and land law.

Research and advocacy officer at Judges Matter, Mbekezeli Benjamin, says the Constitutional Court will benefit from his input on various cases.

“We are excited to see someone of the calibre of Advocate Ngcukaitobi appointed to the Constitutional Court, even if it’s temporary. In the Constitutional Court, six months is over two terms and that means he might hear up to 20 to 30 cases. So he will add a lot of value. Because he will be part of discussions on cases at the Constitutional Court, he will benefit even the broader collective. We are not sure if he will be able to write actual judgements, but we hope that he will get that opportunity,” says Benjamin.
