Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), in Limpopo, says labour unions are still faced with numerous challenges in addressing workers’ challenges.
The union’s Provincial Chairperson in Limpopo, Monyaki Lesiba, says some employers do not observe the labour laws.
Lesiba was speaking ahead of the Workers Day rally.
“We have many labour laws, and when they are complied with, our workers are at least relieved. However, there are employers who breach these laws. In most cases, it is expected of our unions and the federation to ensure that compliance is maintained, but there are challenges such as a lack of staff, infrastructure, and equipment,” he says.
The Workers Day rally in Polokwane will be addressed by COSATU President, Zingiswa Losi, African National Congress (ANC) Deputy President Paul Mashatile, as well as the alliance partners, South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) and the South African Communist Party (SACP).

Lesiba says that in some cases, there is also corruption, which remains a problem across the country.
