Agri Western Cape and the Garden Route District Municipality have confirmed two new cases of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) on a farm in Oudtshoorn, in the Little Karoo.
Officials say a cattle farm in the northern part of Oudtshoorn was identified as the index farm, after two animals tested positive.
State vet, Dr Cathy Fox, says the farm has been placed under quarantine and a biosecurity perimeter has been established to help contain the spread of the disease.
The district municipality says vehicle checkpoints will be put in place to regulate movement in and out of the affected area.
In neighbouring Mossel Bay in the Garden Route, seven farms have tested positive for FMD since the outbreak earlier this year.
