Former senior National Prosecuting Authority official, Advocate Jacobus Pretorius, appears before the TRC Cases Inquiry on 18 May 2026.
Former senior National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) official, Advocate Jacobus Pretorius, has denied allegations that he failed to properly pursue apartheid-era prosecutions.
Pretorius appeared before the TRC Cases Inquiry in Johannesburg on Monday.
He served as a member of the Priority Crime Litigation Unit since 2003 as well as the Special Director of Public Prosecution of the NDPP from 2015 until 2019.
Pretorius told the commission he did not personally witness political interference in TRC matters but relied on sworn affidavits from former senior prosecutors.
“I do not have direct personal evidence of political interference in any matter that I personally handle. We are referred to political interference in relation to TRC matters. I do so on the sworn inversions of those who did, including Advocate Pikoli, Ackermann, and McAdam. Like I said, I have no personal knowledge of political interference, only relied on them.”
