An election ballot box.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has raised concerns about what it describes as inaccurate statements regarding the management and integrity of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.
This follows remarks made by Julius Malema during a podcast interview, where he alleged that votes were swapped at Mponegele Primary School in Polokwane.
Malema claimed that votes cast for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) were instead allocated to the African National Congress (ANC).
The commission says the allegations are incorrect.
According to the IEC, result slips in its possession show that the vote count recorded at Mponegele Primary School corresponds with the figures captured on the commission’s results system.
The commission says there is no evidence that votes were altered or incorrectly allocated during the counting or capturing process at the voting station.
The IEC has also confirmed that senior officials are scheduled to meet with the leadership of the EFF on May 21, 2026, to address concerns the party may wish to raise regarding the electoral process.
The commission says the meeting forms part of ongoing engagement with political parties on matters relating to election administration and electoral integrity.
