An overturned bus at the N1 Louis Trichardt road.
Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety Violet Mathye has expressed sadness following a bus crash that killed eight people on the N1 near the Witvlag turn-off outside Louis Trichardt.
Survivors say the bus experienced brake failure several times before the crash. It was carrying 61 passengers from Malawi to different destinations in South Africa.
Mathye’s spokesperson, Tshifiwa Dali, says the MEC wishes full recovery to 22 people who have been admitted in hospital.
” On behalf of the people of Limpopo, I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wish the injured a speedy recovery. The Department will continue with visible law enforcement operations along that stretch of the N1 in an effort to reduce road carnages. Motorists are once again urged to conduct comprehensive pre-trip inspections at all times to ensure that vehicles are roadworthy before traveling.”
