MPs asked to propose ways to balance work and campaigns

Members of Parliament will be asked to come up with proposals on how they can continue their parliamentary work and campaign for their parties, ahead of the November local government polls. During an election cycle, MPs shift their focus to electioneering, which at times leads to Parliament switching to either a constituency period or going into recess.

The proposals will be discussed by MPs at the Chief Whips’ Forum.

The National Assembly’s Programming Whip, Cameron Dugmore says they will then be shared at Parliament’s National Assembly Programming Committee.

“Parties should come with proposals. We, the possibility of more hybrids, the possibility of actually having full virtual sessions so that members can be in their constituencies more. I think that’s exactly what we need to look at. You know, remember we used to have the hybrids in Good Hope. There’s no reason a hybrid can’t happen in the Dome.”
