Fatal incident in Knysna as tree crushes vehicle

Disaster management in the Garden Route in the Western Cape has confirmed that one person has died after a tree fell on top of a vehicle in Knysna.

Emergency workers are still at the scene and are trying to remove the tree and wreckage.

Disaster management head Gerhard Otto has warned people not to park under big trees as the high-speed winds can be dangerous.

“The Piesang Valley River in Plett burst its banks. Some areas along this river are currently being evacuated, and people will be housed in community halls in that area. We would like to advise the public to avoid big trees and not park under big trees. Unfortunately, this morning we had a fatality of somebody parked under a big tree, and the tree collapsed.”
