SACP urges government to condemn the actions of the US and Israel

The SACP has urged government to condemn the actions of the US and Israel.

The communist party was speaking after its two-day Lekgotla in Johannesburg, following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East.

Party National Spokesperson Mbulelo Mandlana says the South African position should be to resist rather than to care for the actions of the American government and the Israeli government in Iraq.

“What is going on in Israel and the Middle East more generally, what was happening in Palestine and therefore what is happening in Iran now, all those conflicts are connected. And they have one thing in common, and that is the advancement of the American interest in that region. So as far as we’re concerned, the South African position should be to resist rather than to care for the actions of the American government and the Israeli government in Iraq. This is a statement about our positioning of South Africa as a country that resists and stands against imperialism and the imposition of the Western interests in the countries of the Global South.”
