Six dead, others injured in shooting incident on R59 near Meyerton

Six people have been killed and several others injured following a shooting incident on the R59 near Meyerton, south of Johannesburg.

Police have confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Gauteng SAPS Deputy Commissioner Major-General Fred Kekana is en route to the scene. More details to follow.

Last month, five men sitting outside a tuckshop were shot and killed when gunmen opened fire on them,  at Jeffsville informal settlement in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria.

Police suspect the motive of the attack could be related to extortion linked to the running of spaza shops and other businesses.
