Lusikisiki massacre trial resumes in Mthatha High Court

The Lusikisiki massacre trial in the Eastern Cape is set to resume this Monday morning at the Mthatha High Court.

This is in connection with the Ngobozana mass murder of 18 unarmed people, where 15 women, and two men and a 14-year-old boy were gunned down.

Mzukisi Ndamase, the alleged mastermind behind the September 2024 mass killing is expected to continue his cross-examination.

Six accused facing 29 charges, including 18 counts of murder have all pleaded not guilty.

The trial, set to run over two months, has seen 26 of 84 witnesses testify so far.

Ndamase, already serving life for murder and robbery, is accused of orchestrating the killing of 18 people at Wellington Prison while awaiting parole.

Two men, now state witnesses, had their charges dropped, while Ndamase is representing himself.

The prosecution says the killings were planned and premeditated, and past murders were linked to Ndamase, including a councillor and his son in 2022.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says lawyers for the remaining accused will now cross-examine the state’s 204 witnesses.
