Limpopo flood victims receive relief in form of food, shelter

Flood victims at Mbaula village outside Giyani in Limpopo have received relief.

Premier Phophi Ramathuba and Gift of the Givers have provided relief material in the form of food parcels, blankets and clean drinking water to more than 100 victims.

Thirty-five houses were flattened and a five-year-old boy swept away by flood waters.

Ramathuba says the relief marks the first phase of interventions.

Ramathuba says the immediate and first task was to make sure that the people get emergency relief in the form of food and shelter.

Meanwhile, the Malamulele Hospital management in the Vhembe District Municipality, in Limpopo, has confirmed that the facility remains fully functional, and patients continue to receive care as usual.

This follows reports of the hospital experiencing a power outage due to heavy rainfall.

The management says it experienced an explosion in one of its distribution board boxes which affected the tuberculosis (TB) ward only.

Hospital CEO Ronald Mabaso says it has not been confirmed yet that the explosion is due to the heavy rainfall.

“What has happened was on the 14th, where we had the 2nd kiosk that exploded. Our technicians within the hospital have done their best to make connections to all the units. It is only the TB ward, which is adjacent to where the eruptions had been, that is actually now affected. In the rest of the hospital, we’ve made connections. And the hospital is operating very well to an extent that there are no services that are affected to an extent of returning patients back to the community,” adds Mabaso.
