The Department of Education in Gauteng says its online application system is effective amid claims by some parents that the system is not working and should be discontinued.
Some frustrated parents continued to queue outside the Gauteng Department of Education’s offices in Ekurhuleni North, seeking school placements for their children.
Approximately 3 000 learners are still not placed in Gauteng schools.
Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona says capacity remains a challenge.
“We are going to continue with the process of the system but make sure that we enhance where we have shortfalls. We enhance the system on a year in, year out basis. But also increase the capacity because that’s where the challenges is. We need to make sure that we have enough schools, enough spaces where we will be in a position to accommodate parents,” says Mabona.
