Frustrated parents of unplaced learners suspect corruption within Gauteng Education

Frustrated parents in Gauteng say they suspect corruption within the provincial Education Department amid learner placement challenges.

Parents are continuing to queue outside the department’s district office in Morningside, Johannesburg, where they are seeking placements for their children.

Approximately 4 000 learners are still unplaced across the province.

The Department’s spokesperson Steve Mabona says they are continuing with efforts to address the backlog.

“There’s nothing wrong with the system, the only challenge we have is capacity. We cannot accommodate all parents that would have applied to different schools that are in high demand.”
