Khoza joins foundations in rejecting hijacked National Convention

Anti-corruption and social justice activist, Dr. Makhosi Khoza, has raised concerns over the selection of participants at the National Convention. Last week, foundations, including the Thabo Mbeki, Steve Biko, and FW de Klerk, withdrew from the convention.

The foundations have cited issues, including a rushed time frame that has shifted the convention from a citizen and civil society-led initiative to a government-controlled process.

Khoza has questioned the credibility of some of the leaders expected to address the concerns of South African citizens.

“One of the things that is happening in South Africa, which I consider extremely tragic, is that we’ve kind of allowed a situation where ethical and moral voices are sidelined, one way or the other. We allow the recycling of failure or of hugely compromised individuals. We don’t seem to have a quality standard in place that says – to qualify to be a leader, you need to be fit and proper and that these are the qualities that you must have for you to be a leader.”
