Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina
Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina has cautioned municipalities to only use registered water tank providers.
She spoke to the media on the sidelines of the African Union AIP Water Investment Summit in Cape Town.
The summit aims to attract investment to address water scarcity on the continent as well as putting measures in place to ensure water security in the face of global warming.
Majodina addressed allegations of water mafia that deliberately damage water infrastructure in order to get tenders to deliver water tankers.
She says it is important that only registered service providers are utilised.
“We must know who and how they are distributing because they can get water from anywhere and people will get sick then comes back to centre that we didn’t give good quality water. So, municipalities must register those who are doing water tankering.”
