Australia claim 17-run victory over Proteas in opening T20


Australia’s batsmen outmuscled their South African counterparts to win the first T20 cricket game of the 3-match series in Darwin, Australia, by 17 runs.

Australia batted first and scored 178 all out while the Proteas could only manage 161 for 9 in their 20 overs.

Tim David destroyed most of the Protea bowlers as he top-scored for Australia with 83, which included 8 sixes.

Kwena Maphaka was South Africa’s best bowler, taking 4 wickets for 20 runs.

Ryan Rickelton was South Africa’s best batsman in a losing cause, scoring 71. Ben Dwarshuis was the home side’s top bowler and he took 3 wickets for 26 runs.
