Four of the five accused in Meyiwa trial abandon bid to have charges dropped

Four of the accused in the former Bafana Bafana Captain Senzo Meyiwa murder trial have abandoned their bid to have charges against them dropped.

Only one accused, Mthokoziseni Maphisa will continue with the application to have charges against him dismissed.

Five men are on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for Meyiwa’s murder in 2014.

The arguments on the application are expected to be heard on August 25 when the trial resumes.

Defence Counsel Adv Zithulele Nxumalo says he will be ready to submit heads of arguments prior to the next sitting and will proceed with her application on August 18.

State Prosecutor Adv George Baloyi says, “We will go allow with this suggestion of Advocate Nxumalo that we should perhaps set out a timetable at this point for the filing of the heads.”

Nxumalo responded by saying, “I will be ready with the filing of my arguments on the 15th of August 2025, next week Friday.”
